Skype has given its mobile apps a face-lift to provide users with a more natural and intuitive experience.
The Skype 6.0 update impacts both Android and iOS apps. For Android, Skype added new features like custom ringtones, photo sharing and Web link previews. Additionally, the Android app features a “floating action button” that makes it easy for users to start a new conversation, including video and audio calls, chats and video messages. The Android app also features an enhanced search functionality and improved messaging that enables users to quickly see how many unread messages they have.
Skype 6.0 for iPhone and iPad, on the other hand, features better navigation and enables users to leverage swipe gestures to quickly make calls and manage their messages. Moreover, the new version of the app makes it easy for users to share photos, Web links, emoticons and a user’s location while they are on a voice or video call. The iOS apps also feature enhanced search, while the iPad app now includes features like location sharing, the ability to send large emoticons, view Web link previews, as well as send and receive photos. Plus, iPad users can start group chats or group calls directly from the app.
“We are really excited to get all these improvements into your hands,” Skype said in its announcement. “We are dedicated to continuously making Skype the best way to connect, and can’t wait to hear your feedback on Skype 6.0!”
